Will, probated 17 March 1824, bequests to grandson Lewis, sons of son Azel deceased; daughter Sarah and her daughters Susanna and Margaretta Vermoie; daughter Susanna (wife of George Skinner) and her children Josiah and Simeon and George Skinner; daughter Charlotte; children of Asher, Josiah, Simeon and Ezrah Ayres. Simeon Ayres,”son of my daughter Charlotte” was one of two executors.
He was “oldest son, Matthew” in his father Joseph’s will and received land. On 18 May 1797 took inventory of estate of James Manning of Middlesex Co who died intestate. On 12 November 1794 was named adminstrator of estate of Eleanor (Freeman) (Worth) (Ilsey) Paine of Woodbridge (NJArch 37:275). This Eleanor was his first cousing, daughter of Samuel3 Freeman and his first wife Eleanor Ridden.
Served as 2nd Lt. and Capt. in the NJ Militia. Was Lt. from 1o0 Jan 1776 to 6 May 1778 when he was made Capt. Served at Elizabethtown, Woodbride.
