28540. Adam WINTHROP, son of 57080. Adam WINTHROP & 57081. Joan BURTON. Born on 9 Oct 1498 in Lavenham, Suffolk, ENG. Adam died in Groton, Suffolk, ENG, on 9 Nov 1562; he was 64.
At 17 left home and went to London and apprenticed to clothier Edward Altham for 10 years. (Altham in 1531 was a sheriff of London.) WYNTHROP becam a citizen of London 9 September 1526. He was a master of a company of cloth workers in 1551. He received a grant of the Manor of Groton in Suffolk and retired there. Groton, MA was named later after the home town of the Winthrops.
In 1534 when Adam was 35, he married Agnes SHARP.
