Twelfth Generation
Originally from Southampton Colony in LI, he was a man of distinction and held offices including Ensign and High Sheriff of Essex County in Elizabethtown, NJ.
He was an original Associate in Elizabethtown and took the oath of allegiance there 19 Feb 1665. In 1675 the deeds show he owned 292 acres, a tract known as late as the early 1900s as “Woodruff’s Farms.”
He was on the jury when Capt. Wm. Hackett of the sloop “Endeavor” from Salisbury, Co. Norfolk, ENG was charged and tried for illegal trading in the province.

They had the following children:
Viewer of fences in 1668 and surveyor of highways in 1671.
“Nath Ely & Laur Bliss Testyfied that they saw Timothy Coop & Jonath Ashley gallop & Run theire Horses in ye streete last Lecture day in ye forenoon and yt as fast as they could Run” and they, along with John Hitchcock and Samuel Bliss, Jr “it being expressly agt ye Towne order” were fined 2s. 4d. apiece. Came to New Netherland with her parents in Den Eyckenboom (The Oak Tree) sailing from Holland about 17 May 1641 and arriving New Amsterdam around 15 August 1641.

Born ca 1590 in Rodborne, North Wiltshire, ENG. Christened on 22 Jan 1597 in St. Christopher Le Stock. Richard died in Griddle, Wiltshire, England, in 1653; he was 63.
Matriculated at age 18 at Magdelena Hall, Oxford, England in 1587 or 1588.

Came to America probably in the 1640s with his wife and daughter (or possibly 2 daughters - possibly a second daughter Sarah?)
